Longtime baseball coach Towny Townsend dies at 54

Coach Marvin "Towny" Townsend, regarded as the driving force behind the improvement of youth and high school baseball in South Hampton Roads, died today following a long battle with cancer.
Townsend, 54, is survived by his wife of 29 years, Cathy; and two sons, Sean, 25, a teacher and assistant baseball coach at Great Bridge High, and Chase, 21, a junior at University of Mary Washington who plays first base and pitches for the baseball team.
